Installation

Installing the Economics Pack for Mathematica 7.0.0

This provides a short guide for installing the Economics Pack. Read Install.nb for key information on installation and troubleshooting. After expanding, start up Mathematica, go to the Help menu, click on Documentation Center, go the the bottom left corner and click on the AddOns and Packages link. The pack should appear there and clicking on it includes the guide and index into your help browser. This is the User Guide in digital form similar to the User Guide book in printed form. Read the chapter "Getting started" in this User Guide for more details. Properly installed, you can call the TheEconomicsPack palette from the palette menu. This will give further assistence on using the Pack.

Properly installed, you can start the Pack by having Mathematica evaluate Needs["Economics`Pack`"].

The Pack will ask for your password. You only need it once. Henceforth it will be read from a small Password.txt file in the Economics directory. To get your password, email cool@dataweb.nl, and you will receive your password by reply email. Send me: (a) proof of your payment and (b) your Mathematica Licence number $LicenseID or your machine number $MachineID. If you send your $LicenseID then you can use the Pack with your copy of Mathematica. Holders of a single user licence for the Economics Pack on a network machine, with a Mathematica Network $LicenseID, will have to send in their $MachineID. Your $LicenseID and $MachineID can be found by evaluating these symbols in Mathematica, which can be done without the Economics Pack installed.

Notes:

  1. Proof of payment can come e.g. from the bank or the reseller.
  2. In the past $InstallationDirectory was used but now it is $UserBaseDirectory. Above zip only works for $UserBaseDirectory. When you unpack elsewhere, you can also copy and paste the Economics directory to that location. If you put the Pack elsewhere then it likely will not work.
  3. Network operators who want to install the Pack in $InstallationDirectory must contact me for a different version.
  4. Though Mathematica can read packages and notebooks independently from various operating systems, there still is the issue of transferring from one system to the other. However, modern expanders can handle the *.zip format. Unix and Mac users must use unzip -aa TheEconomicsPack.zip
  5. See the Horror Cabinet of things that can go wrong.
